The first half of this meeting will be about the
global.
There will be a brief explanation about what the UNFCCC is, and what was expected from the December 2007 international
climate negotiations in Bali, Indonesia. Then Deepak Rughani of Biofuelwatch, who attended those negotiations will give an account of
what happened; what was good, what was bad and what needs to happen
next.
There will be a ten minute break,
with tea and coffee, juice and biscuits.
The second hour
will be intensely local. We'll push all the chairs in the
main hall to the side and break the ice, then make a calendar of all the
events that are happening in Manchester over the coming year,
brainstorm in small groups events that SHOULD happen, do
"Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats" analysis for each
campaigning group, and form new networks to tackle new challenges. You'll spend a lot of time on your
feet and scribbling on flipcharts and bits of coloured paper! At
the end of that hour, we'll collect all the information, and
distribute it to the relevant groups. A permanent record will go up
on the MCF website.
If this sort of thing is not for you,
please don't stay away! Come just for the first half, or 'sit out'
the second; we will not force anyone to participate!
As
always, there will be a booklet produced We hope to record this,
both audio and video, so that anyone who was unable to attend can
still benefit from the expertise of our speakers.
Please bring
a pen, your brains, ideas and your comfiest shoes. And a £1.50
to help us cover costs.
